Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. The 2024 Black History Month theme is “African Americans and the Arts,” spanning the many impacts Black Americans have had on visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music and other forms of cultural expression.
African American artists have used art to preserve history and community memory as well as for empowerment. Artistic and cultural movements such as the New Negro, Black Arts, Black Renaissance, hip-hop, and Afrofuturism, have been led by people of African descent and set the standard for popular trends around the world.
Penserra celebrates Black History Month as a way to remind everyone of where America has been as a society, and to give all of us the courage to move forward.
