September, 2024 (Orinda, CA) – Penserra, a Hispanic-owned Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), observes National Hispanic Heritage Month by recognizing the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the group’s heritage and culture. By celebrating the values of the Hispanic and Latino American community, Penserra honors its commitment to promote cultural diversity through its hiring practices and charitable responsibilities.
Jorge “George” Madrigal, Penserra’s CEO and a first generation Mexican-American, has strengthened Penserra by promoting hiring practices which have stressed diversity in its workplace. By having offices in major metropolitan areas (San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, New York, and Newport Beach, CA), Penserra has access to large talent pools of prospective employees that allow the firm to focus on hiring the best women and minority candidates. As of August 2024, approximately 43% of the firm’s employees are classified as minorities. Penserra is very proud that this figure is substantially higher than the financial industry average as published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Penserra maintains its commitment to cultural diversity through the creation of an internal Diversity and Inclusion Committee, as well as through its support of local and national organizations who share the belief that diversity makes us stronger; the Penserra Foundation, a nonprofit entity focused on working with communities and organizations to promote diversity, education, and the well-being of children; The Corporate Fellowship in Finance, a unique program that incorporates facets of an apprenticeship and of a fellowship whose purpose is to nurture future Latinx leaders in the finance industry; support of The Hispanic Promise, a national pledge to hire, promote, retain and celebrate Hispanics in the workplace; mentoring students from The Street Smarts, an Oakland, CA-based nonprofit dedicated to providing unique opportunities for historically disadvantaged youth to explore all aspects of financial services; volunteering for The Night Ministry, a Chicago-based organization that works to provide housing, health care and human connection to members of the community struggling with poverty and homelessness; and financial support of The Penserra Founders Scholarship, a financial assistance award created by Jorge “George” Madrigal and Penserra for Willits, CA (Mr. Madrigal’s hometown) high school seniors who are first, second or third generation immigrants and intend to pursue a course of study at an accredited two or four year college or university.
Please join Penserra in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. Observed from September 15 through October 15, the dates were chosen to commemorate two key historic events: Independence Day, honoring the formal signing of the Act of Independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua (September 15, 1821), and Mexico’s Independence Day, which denotes the beginning of the struggle against Spanish control (September 16, 1810).
